Cardiologi? In abbondanza. Gastroenterologi? Certo non mancano. Radiologi? In sofferenza. Anestesisti? A lanciare l'allarme è Amedeo Bianco, president Fnomceo: "Today, from Italian hospitals out twice as many doctors who come into service."
The "National Federation of Associations of doctors" provides an overview of the likely subscribers to the provincial orders (as of March 2007). Given that doctors are not obliged to communicate their specialty and that some of them have more than one, certainly what emerges is a highly uneven spatial distribution, are some examples: gastroenterologists are 670 in California (with a population of over 9 million inhabitants), 383 in Ontario (about 6 million residents) and well in 1141 Lazio (just over 5 million inhabitants).
And again, the radiologists are 778 in Lombardy, Campania and reach 735 in their record (916) also in Lazio. Not only that. Lazio beat all in gynecology and obstetrics (with more than 300 specialists in California).
Why these anomalies? "Access to skills - Amedeo Bianco says - is based on two determinants: the vocation of the aspiring medical personnel and capabilities of each university." So, today if one wants to do the cardiologist should only expect to find a vacancy in the faculty and then you're done. "The problem - White admits - is that this dynamic is disconnected from the real needs of physicians in the area. Not at all specializations are most numerous, where there are larger universities, "and not where it is really needed. It so happens that" today are in pain, radiologists and anesthesiologists (the most serious by turns exhausting and risks to health, ed), while certainly no shortage of specialists in gastroenterology. "The problem has a name:" organizational model. "" If, for example - says White - stands the pediatric age to 16 or 18 years, it is clear that the number of pediatricians would be insufficient , just as if it is decided that each ambulance must have an anesthesiologist on board. "
must therefore be streamlined organizational model of the NHS," otherwise the system will remain patchy. "
But get out of the fragmented logic "is not enough: we also need long-term planning needs of the NHS. "If a radiologist is more - said Bianco - I have to budget at least seven years in advance, taking into account the time of its formation." In short, do not go away without programming.
"This leads to absurd situations - Aldo confirmation Santese CGIL-Medici - with specialization choices too, and therefore at risk of unemployment and others with staff shortages." What? Always the same: "Radiology, and especially anesthesia: the least desirable because risky and subject to grueling rounds." Then becomes an urgent policy for serious programming needs. "We need to get out of the self-logic - supports Santese - deciding in advance the skills to be encouraged."
In this sense, seem to finally move the Ministries of Health and the University, with the decree (issued in September) for determining the number of doctors to be trained in specialized schools in the academic year 2007 / 08. How many? A total of 7460, with its increasing demands among anesthesiologists (880 seats) and radiologists (500). Moreover
get out of the blind policy endorsements "has become a necessity in the future it could be forced to having to import massive white coats from abroad. "If today we look upon iscrizioni alle facoltà di Medicina (28.077 matricole l’anno scorso, nrd) e lo confrontiamo con quello dei pensionamenti - avverte Bianco, presidente Fnomceo - arriveremo a breve a una carenza di medici in Italia. Nei prossimi anni, infatti, ne usciranno il doppio di quanti ne entreranno, portando il nostro Paese nella situazione di Spagna e Gran Bretagna, che già oggi devono fare "campagna acquisti" all'estero".
